review 1: The mystery was a little weak with this one - I think it was because of the need to fill the Brits in on the American War of Independence - which forms the backbone of the plotline. However, the mystery at the heart of it was a little thin - but the explanation was very inventive indeed - and I am once again blown away with the extensive research undertaken for the book. I am in hopes for this to develop into a great series - and it was nice to have some personal touches on Sherlock for the fans - this time we learn from whence comes the love for the violin. - looking forward to the next one!

... moreought the plot was gripping and well historically researched. Packed full of action and conflict, esp. on the boat trip to America. Sherlock constantly develops his particular set of skills; the violin, cataloging vital information and distinguishing aspects of individuals like tattoos & cuts of suits etc. Can't wait to further my journey in Andrew Lane's series! less
