review 1: Llama Llama and the Bully Goat is about a a billy goat who is a bully -- he giggles at people, throws sand at them, stomps, kicks, etc. The other animals in the class walk away and tell their teacher who helps remedy the situation. The teacher and animals help the Gilroy the billy goat learn how to be a good friend. This book will be very positive in the text set because the llama series is already a hit with it's catchy rhymes and eye-grabbing animal drawing. Student will be drawn to the characters and feel sad when Gilroy is being a bully. I think it will create very positive conversations about what to do when someone is not being kind, how to tell a teacher, and how we need to forgive our friends when they make mistakes. On the other hand, we will also discuss how... more nobody likes a bully. I think the laughing and giggling will really hit home as students in my class sometimes laugh at others when they are struggling, and that is never a kind thing to do. No body wants to be friends with a bully. This book demonstrates very positive behavior on both sides (why being a bully is not good/ what to do when someone is being a bully ie. not retaliate) and it does so in a way that distances students from the real situations. This book will also be great to refer to when specific bullying situations happen in class. We can refer to the book as teachers to help students solve their problems. For example "how did llama feel when Gilroy was being a bully goat? Did he want to be his friend? Do you think X will want to be your friend if you are bullying him by doing X? What can you do to fix the problem?"
review 2: Llama, Llama loves school. In class, they write, draw, sing, and count. A classmate, Gilroy Goat, rejects the opportunity to join the fun and thinks that everything is silly. Gilroy calls Llama, Llama a name and gets in trouble. When playing outside, Gilroy kicks dirt at the other animals, teases, throws things, pushes, and stomps on Llama’s coat. It is apparent that Gilroy is a Bully Goat! Llama and Nelly advise the teacher of Gilroy’s behavior and the teacher helps Gilroy understand it’s better to be a friend than a bully. The Llama, Llama series of books provide kids with wonderful life lessons that are easy for the younger kids to digest. The illustrations are entertaining and are textually appropriate. less
