review 1: Loved the characters. Andreas grouchyness was actually pretty endearing instead of annoying. He was slightly rude towards Phoebe but not outrightly so. Which is a good balance in the situation because if he went too overboard he might become highly unlikable. Despite it being a 3rd person's pov, we still get into Andreas head and see Phoebe through his eyes. This story factors heavily around politics...more of business politics. And I didn't read the first two book, which meant I was pretty much lost the whole book because there wasn't much insight as to what happened in the previous books. So I was complete lost. Thank goodness that didn't stop me from liking the characters.
review 2: magnetic, engaging, well-developed characters + complex yet believable plot t
... morehat puts forth convincing obstacles + florid, eloquent writing = captivating and suspenseful read followed by an afterglow of satisfaction. This is the first of many Anne Mallory books for me. I love historical romance to a fault, often completing books despite some decidedly awful writing. Total Surrender ticks off every item on the historical romance checklist, but it still qualifies as a great novel when considered apart from the genre. less
