review 1: Beautifully written, another great book by Adiga. It provides a glimpse into the lives a various, different characters whose lives are somehow entwined. Adiga explores the effects of caste, religion, class, status and also the importance of money in India. I particularly enjoyed the passages about the idealistic journalist who is on a quest for the un-corrupted truth. This book exposes the dark reality of corruption in India; what struck me was the bit about how even the homeless had to pay protection money to a gang leader to sleep on the streets. The only thing that I would criticize is that the book doesn't flow as well. It jumps from one story to the other, I would prefer it if it had a unifying theme to connect them. It was not as great as The White Tiger but definit... moreely a worthwhile read!
review 2: We finished this up a few days ago, and were so impressed we began reading White Tiger. I always enjoy books that speak of people from India/Middle East scenarios. But this was more than something appease my penchant for reading that puts my traveling mind in the experience of dragging my feet through the dusty roads of India. It may be that I no longer travel that well, physically, but I still have my eyes and can enjoy visiting other lands and cultures through the many books provided. In short, I just can't get enough of it, and this author fills my needs wonderfully well. less
