Joe Gunther
review 1: Solid debut for Archer Mayor and his lead detective Joe Gunther. There were signs of an inexperienced writer, but as a whole this was enjoyable and engaging. I would have a liked a little more expansion on the section with the villain targeting the jury. That could have been the whole story but it was dropped pretty early on. Some of the motivations were a little murky as well, but these are minor complaints.
review 2: This was more of a procedural than a whodunit. And frankly, considering that it was a freebie, it was much better than I expected. The middle got a little bit bogged down with exposition as everyone had to explain all the sciencey bits to justify "Yes, those were his bodily fluids." Possibly not all of that was strictly necessary. Additiona
... morelly, the main villain of the piece was just a bit too competent and a bit too two-dimensional; more of a boogeyman than a real person. Still, the setting was well-realized, and the protagonists were believable and sympathetic. I'd recommend it for fans of the genre, although I have to say that the teaser for the sequel did _not_ make me want to read it. I may just stop here and be happy. less

A bit disjointed at times...and the ending leaves this reader shaking his head...very abrupt.
