review 1: Part One: I wasn't expecting this at all. This is not the normal Arianne Richmonde style of book. Marriage problems and a crazy house guest. Not to mention lots of details and a lot of mystery. So many unanswered things, Sylvia's family secrets, Grace's little pen recorder ahhhhh so many things.I have a young daughter and some things Sylvia did made me want to shake her silly!Part Two: The second half of the book answered all of my questions. A few parts were even rough to read. Is it possible for "Ruth" to get her own book? There is alot of mystery surrounding this woman and I would like to know even more.
review 2: I can see how many would really enjoy this book. The story idea is great and the writing is just fine, but I could not get into it. Full discl
... moreaimer: I on read an average of 2 or 3 sentences per page for the second half of this book. (And, no, I don't feel like I missed much.)Maybe it was just bad timing on my part - my being distracted with other things, but I couldn't bring myself to care about the characters. The dialog did not ring true to me at all. It is marketed as a suspense novel but it never felt suspenseful to me. I guessed how things would turn out and just felt impatient to get to the point! The story is told from the perspectives of two parents and their 5 year old. The 5 year old's part was my least favorite because 1) her thoughts and dialog didn't sound like a 5 year old to me. (Not that I'm an expert on 5 year olds.) and 2) It seemed her characters thoughts and actions were used more to describe the under belly of the culture/area where she was located. I felt the author was on a mission to educate readers about poverty in some areas, rather than a mission to entertain us with a suspense novel. The relationship between the parents is strained from the beginning of the story due to something the husband has done and the wife's feelings felt reasonable to me initially, but as the story unfolded, the subsequent attitude and actions of his wife seemed out of proportion in response to her perceived slights by the husband, immature and downright bizarre given the supposed urgency of the situation. I felt annoyed with her, not at all sympathetic. less

The story is too farfetched and the characters are rather dull; they lack depth and development.
