review 1: Oh, my goodness. I think I've seen this called chick lit before, but damn, I didn't know chick lit was supposed to be this sad. I'm not usually into stories like this but the premise (the bride and groom are killed in a car accident on their way to the reception) was too intriguing. I loved the characters. They were almost all very well-developed and I felt as though the grief just radiated from the pages.
review 2: The book opens with the wedding of Becca, daughter of a well-to-do family that summers in Red Hook, Maine, to John, son of the family’s cleaning lady. On the way to the reception, the newlyweds die in a traffic accident. The rest of the story deals with the relationships between their family members but only covers what happens in the summers, whi... morech didn’t really work for establishing a cohesive plot. Some of the family members’ stories were interesting to me; others (replete with lengthy, detailed descriptions of sailing and boxing) were not. In the end, conflicts were resolved a little too neatly. less
