review 1: Picked this up at an independent bookstore (my kryptonite!) in Bellingham on the recommendation of a staff member. It did not disappoint. The premise is thought-provoking, the writing is taut, and the characters are intriguing and human. Recommended for a quick read. I've already checked out the final two in the trilogy from the library and am crossing my fingers that the series gets turned into a movie someday, since I would definitely see it.
review 2: I couldn't resist picking this book up after hearing about it on a talk radio show. It sounded like an intriguing combination of murder-mystery and sci-fi. The murder-mystery element was pretty good and would've been entertaining enough on its own but was even more interesting with the impending apocalypse ... morebackstory. The sci-fi aspect was a little lacking but it picks up in the next couple books of the series. I also want to applaud Ben Winters for was his ability to include humor that might actually get you to laugh out loud, something not easily done in a book. less
