review 1: I had really high hopes for this James study especially considering the book of James contains one of my favorite life verses. Although I still love the book of James, I didn't enjoy this Beth Moore study at all. I found it poorly written and too all over the place. The portion of the study that I did enjoy was getting us to think about James as the step brother of Jesus and just everyday living with the Savior of the World. Our group went through the study just like others, taking three weeks per lesson.
review 2: This study made me fall in love with James. In high school I attended a church that was taken over by a spiritually abusive pastor. He preached out of James for his first several months with a legalistic bent that so turned me off I had avoided readi... moreng the book altogether for years afterwards. In fact, it had been over a decade since leaving that church when my Bible study decided to undertake this book and video series. I am so glad they did! I was missing out on so much good guidance on Christian living that bitterness was keeping from enjoying. As a history nerd I also enjoyed the background and historical context that Beth's daughter brought to the book. I could camp out in the book of James for a good long time and still have more to learn. Great study. Definitely recommend. less
