review 1: Since I've been reading a lot of fantasy and romance, this was a stark change from my recent genres. It really jolted me into the character's reality and I spent a lot of time wondering about coping with a missing leg or eye and a lot of scar tissue. The cover and blurb made me think that the characters were being hunted by a serial killer or something but they're just trying to figure out how to live with the aftermath of MRSA.
review 2: Polly used to have a great life. She was pretty and popular and had a great boyfriend and was about to graduate from high school and go off to college. And hopefully someday marry that great boyfriend. Then she contracted a flesh eating bacteria that ate away part of her face and one of her eyes. She missed graduation whil... moree she was in the hospital, and that so-called great boyfriend dumped her via snail mail. And now her life pretty much sucks. Then one day Odd comes to see if she wants to go fishing. Odd is another person at her school who was struck down by the bacteria. Before they got sick they weren't friends, but in the hospital they kind of bonded. Besides being the only two of seven who survived the disease, they found that they had fishing in common. And Odd is the first person to come see her since she's been home. When Odd asks her if she wants to go fishing, she says yet. It's the first time she's been out of the house and the first time she's left her mother's sights in weeks. What follows is a week of some fishing - but also campfires, bonding over booze, various wilderness adventures, Polly's driving for the first time, and lots of soul searching for both teens. less
