Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen is a Young Adult fantasy book. The protagonist is Cécile, an aspiring singer, who one day is kidnapped and took to the city of Trollus. Here, trolls and half-bloods can’t leave this city under a mountain because of a curse that has trapped them there for more than five centuries.
But there’s a prophecy to break the curse, and Cécile is the one who has to do it, by bonding with the prince of the trolls, Tristan. However, there’s more than what meets the eye and the protagonist has to find out whom to trust.
I loved Cécile. She was brave and witty; the only problem is that I think she didn’t act that surprised that trolls existed, like she had accepted this revelation in a heartbeat. However she’s defiant and doesn’t want to submit to these trolls who are cruel.
I loved Tristan as well, he’s strong, kind, intelligent, funny, and cares deeply for his friend and his people.
Marc was another character I found quite interesting, he has to live despite what he had gone through; his life is hard, but he still fights for those he loves. I can’t wait to read The Broken Ones, his spin-off.
The twins were really funny and I liked their competitiveness, though I wanted to know more about them and read more scenes with them.
The writing style was very good, flowing nicely and the book was a page-turner. I absolutely recommend it and give it 5 out of 5 stars.
