This book was something I bought on a whim, because everyone was always telling me that Brandon Sanderson was a Fantasy god.Well.He is. I read both volumes in a grand total of one day - from midnight to 3 in the afternoon, with only a brief stop for food, sleep and a lecture. It was engrossing, compelling and I could not put it down. It was in the top five books I've ever read, and when I finished reading it, I immediately went and bought several other Sanderson novels, because apparently I have been massively missing out.The characters were fleshed out, beautifully crafted, and vividly alive. The universe was wide and lavishly filled in every detail. The plot was both clever and understated, and I even got a few surprises with one event or another. All in all, if you haven't read it, you should. There is a reason this book won a David Gemmell award, and that reason is how truly magnificent a piece of work it is. So shoo - go read it! I'm going go wait for the Mistborn trilogy to arrive in the mail.(Note - I have posted this review on both volumes of the novel. Just for completeness.)
What can I say that I have not already said in my review of #1.1? nothing, really.Sanderson has an amazing imagination, and his world is so intricately detailed and constructed that one cannot help but be drawn in. Yet he does not info-dump, does not scream from the roof-tops about how deftly crafted it all is. No, he just tantalises the reader with little tidbits, explainations and the occasional piece of beautiful line-art.Once I read #1.1, I had no choice but to continue and now I feel that that choice has also been determined for me - I shall need to keep reading this series. I really wish to know what happens to the characters, who have become almost like real people to me - especially Kaladin and the team of Bridge 4. I wish to know what the future holds for them, and the secret of the Parshadan and the Voidbringers and the Knights of Radiant...Addictive and enjoyable.
Oh man I loved this. Guess I'm in it for the long haul (what is there, like 9 books left?)
4.5 stars Woah, it's really starting to get good now.
