review 1: I enjoyed the book although the characters drove me up the wall. Mark Bradbury, a teacher has lost his job because of rumours that he was having an affair with one of his pupils. His wife Hilary is also a teacher specialising in dance. On a trip to Florida to watch a dance competition, the sister of the girl he's accused of inappropriate behaviour with, is murdered making Mark the prime suspect. The story revolves around the people who live on the small island where Mark and Hilary live. The islanders want Mark arrested and charged with the murder in order to keep their secrets hidden. For a man supposedly very intelligent, Mark keeps getting himself into scrapes that are unbelievable. Hilary has blind faith in her husband and trusts him implicitly. Lots of twists an... mored turns as the story unfolds telling the secrets of the small minded community. I found the characters irritating and couldn't find any sympathy at all with any of them. So all in all a good story but I just couldn't connect with the characters.
review 2: This is the second book by Brian Freeman that I have read, Spilled Blood was the first, and I liked this one even better. I would have awarded this one 3.5 stars if that was an option. The Bone House was much more suspenseful and well plotted than Spilled Blood. I was shocked when the killer was revealed at the end of the Bone House. I didn't see that coming at all. If you're looking for a good thriller I would recommend this book. less
