review 1: Totally gross and not for the faint of heart. On the other hand if you like a nasty horror novel with lots of blood and gore, this is the stuff you're looking for. There are at least three characters getting their head crushed or burst open and the description of each of these sequences is, shall I say, "exquisite". Minus one star for the rushed ending, but I heard a sequel titled "Suburban Gothic" was coming in early 2015 .... And minus half a star for the prose & characterization of the main characters. 3.5 stars.
review 2: "Shit happens".Indeed.The plot story is kind of cheesy - a bunch of teenagers and a creepy old abandon house where they run for cover but instead of they get hit by a brutal reality. And they get hit a lot. Every chapter is filled with gru
... moreesome details and violent deaths. The house is а maze where you not only loose yourself, but you loose your hope and your mind. The creatures that occupy the house are so gross and so well described that it can make you want to puke. This is the first book I read by Brian Keene. And I liked it. Maybe because it is the first one I read, maybe because I rarely read horror books or maybe because it is actually a nice piece of work. Whatever the reason is - I can not give less than 4 stars. less
