review 1: I really liked the story but the writing was a bit confusing to me. I felt like there weren't enough transitions. For example, one minute Tyler is in his room opening the door, and the next, he is magically talking to Holly. Did he walk over to Holly's house, or did Holly stop by? It was just a bit confusing at times. Also I was confused as to what time of day certain things happened. For example, if Tyler has school all day, but then sneaks out and is out wandering around all night, when the hell does he sleep? I just feel like the storyline lacked some details, like the whole thing with Robbie and why they suspected him and it wasn't until the end, literally the last page, where we find out what actually happens. Again, I just felt the story had some holes but ov... moreerall it was a pretty good book.
review 2: Really 3.5 stars....This is the 2nd book I've read this summer about a hit-and-run accident. (The first was Lisa Scottoline's "Keep Quiet", a book I also enjoyed, maybe a bit more.) But this is where the similarities end. I've read other reviewers' criticisms that the plot of this book moved too slowly, that the reader discovers what happened early on and there was really no suspense. But this book is not a whodunit. You know what happened. The essence of the book is the way all the characters react to what happened. The story is a good one, but what I took away from this book was an examination of so many emotions surrounding friendship, parenting, stages of marriage, teenagers, balance of home & work, "letting go", etc. The title, "The Deepest Secret" is fitting because all the characters have secrets. And how do we ever really know a person? less
