review 1: For me, it's going to be difficult for a Mallory book to get better than this. Set in the world of theater during the opening performances of a new play, O'Connell has chosen a perfect world of crazy, complicated people in which to tell her latest tale. Full of characters who are trained experts at being fake people leading fake lives, the story is terrifically layered, complex and impossible to put down – all exactly how I like my Mallory. Other reviews here have noted the main character as "unfeeling" or "unbelievable," which makes me think the writers of those reviews perhaps read this book too quickly, or have a disconnect from the last book to this one. "It Happens in the Dark" was a perfect read, and I'm already scanning the Web for news of O'Connell's next delic... moreious work.
review 2: If you like a complicated and intricate who-dunnit, then this book is for you. If you are a theater buff, that might help too! I can't say that I hated the book becuase I stayed up late to finish it to see who did it. I actually like my crime books a little more straightforward than this one. Because of my lack of theater knowledge, I often mixed up the positions and the respective characters often. O'Connell is a master at keeping you guessing and weaving an intricate plot - simply not the book for me. less

This is the eleventh book in the Mallory series, and possibly the last! I highly recommend them all!

I like to go back and retread the earlier books in the series in which Mallory was real.

21/2 stars. Stretches credulity too far.
