review 1: It's been a while since I've read Gone West, but I've read the entire Dalrymple series, and they're thoroughly enjoyable. Daisy is a modern young woman of the 1920s from an aristocratic background who's married a former RAF pilot and Scotland Yard detective Alec Fletcher. The series paints a colorful picture of the time period through descriptions of fashion to trends in slang and daily goings-on in either London or the English countryside. I've always liked that Dunn's unapologetic about the period (e.g. Daisy really doesn't spend much time with her children as they have a nanny and nursemaid and there's cook as well.) I also love the characters Daisy knows or bumps into at estates or on holiday. She's willing to comment on or describe to the reader how people look, sound... more or dress in a way that makes the reader smile or chuckle. The mysteries themselves remind me of Agatha Christie's style of writing, but as another reviewer said on a frothier level. Well-written and a fun diversion!
review 2: This book started out seeming very light, and as the main character is a chief detective's wife, who's not supposed to meddle in his work, I was prepared to not like it. But it surprised me by the narrator's character, the well drawn mystery which kept me guessing and barely on the heels of the detectives until the end. The characters were very nicely developed in a small amount of words, which is unusual. less

Sadly, this wasn't as entertaining as many of the other books in this series. It seriously dragged.
