review 1: A friend gave me this book several months ago and I think I read the author's note back then and promptly forgot about it. Halfway through the book something seemed so off that I decided to reread it (the note not the book). I realised what was bugging me. She made up way too much. I'm not a Russian history expert but I do love history and though, I'll admit I have been known to enjoy embellished biographies, this one really took the cake - and not in a good way. I did think there was more focus than necessary on the heroine's heaving-bosomy sex life while probably more interesting things were going on around her. From an audiobook standpoint, the reader's over-articulation kind of got to me, but again, it was an engaging story. less

Enjoyed this book. I think everyone wishes and hopes that one of the tsarina's survived.
