review 1: The slight problem I have with Carolly Ericksons books is not the suspenseful events that continuously happen but the lack of attachment to the characters. This book, unlike the Bird of Paradise one, was I memorable and I really didn't understand the true motives and ideas of Lettie other than to just be there. I didn't feel her connection to Robert, especially by the time she married him, or to Chris. The queen was probably the most interesting but only due to her dynamic character. Overall I as disappointed but I'm not surprised. I see that Erickson has written better books so I haven't given up yet.
review 2: This is a good vacation book. I wish I had saved it for my next plane trip. If you like Phillippa Gregory you will like this. Not quite as gripping
... moreas The Other Boyelyn Girl, but interesting and fun to read anyway. It is told through the eyes of Robert Dudley's other love, the one he married after his affair with Elizabeth. Purely fiction, maybe some of this happened this way, some seems to be not exactly as history shows. Who knows? Good reading anyway, keeps your attention. less

Not bad. I liked Phillippa Gregory's books a lot better though.
