The Infernal Devices
review 1: This book was very interesting... The plot twist with the clockwork creatures really added depth to the book, giving it its own personality, making it different than the mortal instument series! Personally I read the mortal instrument series first and it really helps out with the infernal devices. I think it is because Cassasndra Clare wrote the mortal instrument series first, and that is why she made the city of bones more of an introductory to the whole trilogy of series as she is reading the third series now... I am in grade 9 and I would highly reccomend this book to anyone who has a high interest in fantasy and the shadow world. *spoiler alert- In the end of the book I really found part about will going to see magnus and asking the ghost for the anti-love po... moretion really intersting. I didn't expect it and it put the book together for a good cliffhanger ending. *end of spoiler Cassandra Clare really put an immense amount of detail into this book and I can't wait to read the next book in the series. The book kept me reading and I didn't think I would ever put it down, even during times while I busied myself with other activities I found myself telling friends about my book and thinking about what is going to happen next. Everyone should read this series as well as every other series by Cassandra Clare.
review 2: Tessa Gray, living in New York, suddenly receives a ship ticket to go to London from her brother. Her brother has been in London and he didn’t include a reason as to why he sent her this ticket. Tessa goes to London, not expecting anything strange to happen. Little does she know that she is about to get herself into demonic magic and a world full of mysterious creatures. Two sister, called “The Dark Sisters,” teach Tessa a power that she didn’t know existed inside of her. They teach Tessa how to “Change,” an ability that Tessa has to allow her to transform into any person as long as she has something that belonged to them, whether they are alive or dead. Tessa obeys the two sisters because they promise her that she would soon see her brother if she follows their orders. However, The Dark Sisters are demonic people that “the Shadowhunters” are trying to get rid of. Tessa falls into the hands of the Shadowhunters and she is promised that she is safe at their institute. Was this trip to London for her to see her brother, or was this just a trap? I didn’t enjoy this book very much because I found it very boring. I decided to read this book because I wanted to read another genre other than realistic fiction, but this book was not something I enjoyed. This book was very boring and the plot seemed kind of pointless to me. The author, Cassandra Clare, made the plot confusing because she kept on going back and forth between point-of -views even though it was unnecessary. The characters in this book also seemed boring to me, they had no personality and the author didn’t really develop their character throughout the book. This book seemed to me just like any other book about fighting demonic monsters and the author could’ve put her own twist to this story. I also didn’t enjoy this book because I didn’t expect it to turn into a story involving love and relationships. It was unexpected how Clare suddenly decided to include two characters being in love with each other. In this book, there were also so many characters to keep up with and some characters seemed to be irrelevant to the text. Some characters would appear for 20 pages, and then they wouldn’t be mentioned again until the end of the book, and this made me confused about who was who. One thing I did like about this book was how certain parts of the book kept me on the edge of my seat. Some parts were very action-packed and kept me engaged throughout the book. If this book didn’t have these interesting events, then this book would’ve gotten a review of 2 stars, not 3 stars. less
