review 1: Celia Graves (part vamp and part siren) is hired by her cousin, Princess Adriana (Queen Lopaka's daughter) to protect her during the wedding with King Dahlmar. Apparently someone is trying to kill her. Adriana forsees that she will not live through the wedding without Celia Graves to protect her. Celia seems to have broken up with John Creede and taken up with Bruno (her ex). John Creede is hired by King Dahlmar as bodyguards for the wedding. apparently a demon spawn used glamour and pretended to be Prince Arkady (King Dahlmar's brother) to try and kill them. Arkady was in this together with his daughter Olga who plotted to kill them. Celia got this down and caught the demon spawn. Despite all of this, King Dahlmar and Adriana spoke their vows in the church and discovered ... morea secret room in the chruch. There were shelves lined with treasures - it was the missing state treasures of Rusland - the ones that disappeared during the war. In the end Queen Lopaka of the sirens wanted to reward Celia for her heroic save. Celia's only wish was to fix people's mind that was broken by siren power. As usual, you can't be without Gilda and Isaac Levy - the couple that supplies Celia her weapons. Poor Celia had her office blown up and her secretary Dawna thankfully wasn't hurt. But because of this incident Dawna's boyfriend, Chris, gave her an ultimatum - either marry him or work continue to work with Celia. Guess what? The person who tried to bomb her office used something from her hair to trigger it and the person was Angelina (Bruno's ex) - the one that wants to get back with him however he won't look at her while Celia is still alive. Angelina got Celia's hair from the siren charm Celia had made for Bruno so that he wouldn't be affected by her Siren abilities.Anyways, I wish Celia would get back with John Creede. Creede didn't really appear all that much in this book. Barely played a role. Then there is also this missing siren girl called Okalani. She was from the previous book where she helped teleport Celia around. Celia is also charged by her mother to find Okalani. Celia found her but Okalani was with the wrong crowd. The crowd that killed people. Okalani got caught up with the demons and died in the end. Celia was unable to save her. Okalani's arm was severed from her and left on the bed of Princess Adriana's suite by the demon. Celia found Okalani in another dimension with a demon's spear pinning her soul. She would live until the demon removed the weapon and allowed her to die. Apparently Jan Mortensen the guy who wanted revenge for the death of his brother was behind it with Olga. Unfortunately just as she shot Jan he finished the demon summoning. What could Celia do? Apparently as long as she had faith and the gang (Bruno, Creede, Igor and a priest) she was able to banish the demon. However the demon promised to haunt Celia in her dreams for all eternity.
review 2: Celia's life just seems to get more and more complicated! After a difficult case rescuing people from drug dealers and vampires in Mexico and breaking off with her boyfriend Creede, Celia arrives home just in time to get involved with her cousin's royal wedding. Celia is the niece of the Siren high Queen but is just getting used to that idea. When she was almost turned into a vampire, her Siren powers manifested too. Now her cousin Adriana needs her because seers have predicted that something would go wrong at the weddings if Celia isn't there. The problems start early. Who knew that finding the right bridesmaid's dresses would bring on an assassination attempt? Luckily, Celia is there to foil it. Besides the security issues surrounding two weddings - one on the Siren's island home and the other in the groom's home, Celia has to deal with a jealous former girlfriend of her old friend and love Bruno. The story is packed with action. The fanatics who want to rid the world of Sirens and who have enlisted the help of a demon to do so make really convincing villains. I like the relationship that Celia has with her friends Dawna and Gilda and Isaac Levy. They make good substitutes for her dysfunctional and estranged grandmother and mother. I liked that her relationship with Bruno is being rekindled but I don't think John Creede is ready to fade off into the sunset. I recommend this fascinating urban fantasy story to fans of the genre. less
