A Brit in the FBI
review 1: I took several evenings out to read this fast-paced thriller about the theft of the Koh-I-Noor diamond from an exhibit at the Met. Coulter, who has a long-running series of FBI thrillers to her name, here introduces a new character to her list. Nicholas Drummond is a former British black ops operative who has "retired" at the grand old age of twenty-eight to New Scotland Yard, where life is presumably slower and somewhat less horrific than it was in Afghanistan and other Middle Eastern hot spots. At the beginning of the book, Nicholas's one time paramour has been fished out of the East River, quite dead. She had been on special detail in New York to guard the Koh-I-Noor as it, and a selection of Crown Jewels, had been sent from the UK to New York as part of a trans-Atl... moreantic celebration of the queen's Diamond Jubilee. Nicholas travels to New York to find out who killed her and so is on the scene when the Koh-I-Noor is stolen. A breathless chase across Switzerland and France ensues. Many scenes seemed tailor made for the movie screen, especially a sanguinary fight scene in a suite at the Paris Ritz, but that doesn't stop this from being an excellent escapist reading experience. Nicholas, and his new partner "Mike" (Michaela) Caine definitely have a future on my reading list.
review 2: I am a big fan of Catherine Coulter's books, especially her FBI books featuring Sherlock and Savich. This book, The Final Cut, is the first book in a new series A Brit in the FBI. Sherlock and Savich help with this international thriller but the main characters are Nicholas Drummond, a chief inspector with New Scotland Yard, and Michaela (Mike) Caine an FBI agent assigned to find the Koh-i-Noor diamond stollen from the Queen mother's crown when an exhibition of the crown jewels was being held in New York. Through many twist and turns they chase the robbers, buyer and killers in New York and across Europe. A throughly enjoyable romp. less

This whole story reminded me of The Thomas Crown Affair (the remake with Pierce Brosnan).

Fun read - little bit of mystery, some violence and fluff, but really enjoyed it.
