review 1: Picked it up on a free book exchange shelf while at the Dolphin Bay hotel in Hawaii (in Hilo on the big island). Crappy teen sci-fi/horror novel by an Australian author. Generation ship turns to living organism due to cosmic encounter, and its 'immune system' tries to kill all of humanity on board until they figure out how to work around it. Written in a first-person perspective, but neither the teen boy narrator nor any of the other characters that he interacts with are in the least bit interesting. The protagonist doesn't really do anything noteworthy, just runs along with expository events. Even though as an adult I am not really the target audience, I do not think this is worth reading for teens either.
review 2: As a fan of catastrophic "I told you so
... more, humans" horror stories, this book really hit the spot, in a simple unembellished way that I found myself wishing would not end so fast, or would at least offer a sequel. The horror is similar to Dead Space (video game) and Death Troopers (Star Wars zombie book, does it get much better than that??), and the characters are doers rather than wailers, which is always a good thing. The descriptions are evocative, the setting easily visualized. I recommend this book; it's not terribly long and the pacing makes it tough to put down. Extra points to Catherine Jinx for getting the action started immediately. less

A very interesting concept of life in space. I liked this adventure thriller.

I liked it but it was a bit slow at first.
