review 1: I've read very few historical fiction books.I think I took on this book more as a challenge. The first few pages were difficult for me.I feared that I made a mistake.I didn't give up on it,though, and ended up really enjoying this book.C.C. Humphreys does a superb job intertwining fictional characters with the historical facts of the fall of Constantinople. The battle scenes were told with heart stopping details.I especially enjoyed John Grant, who isn't a main character, but his presence in the story brought some humor.
review 2: This is about the story of the fall of Constantinople. It involves a lot of fighting between the Greeks of Constantinople and the Turks. There is a little romance involved too. The author cut back and forth between a Greek soldier that
... more was labeled a traitor and lost his nose because of it, and the Turks. It was very difficult at times to follow the Turks dialog at times and sometimes had to re-read those parts. Overall the story moved at a pretty decent pace, and it is based on facts which the other explains at the end of the book. less

Plot was decent but character development was pretty weak
The best book that I've ever read :)
