review 1: Oh, Charlaine, what did you do to me? Or, more to the point, what happened to you honey!?What happened to the exciting-can't-put-the-book down tales? This book was... Meh :-/I found the previous one annoying. This one is boring.Nothing interesting happens. Sure, all kinds of people die, there's a murder sort of mystery, but where was the excitement???The story doesn't move forward from the previous books. Sookie's character doesn't grow. Actually I think she might be going backwards. And a few things are inconsistent and.. odd:- what with Sookie's obsession for killing? - did that Victor do such a horrible thing?? More horrible than what had happened in other books?- Is it me or her relationship with Eric feels completely unnatural? They MARRIED and she didn't know about it, ... morebut that's ok, let's just be a couple now. She barely bites her lips when he says 'my wife' and just thinks of having sex with him any occasion she has. C'mon! Isn't this relationship super weird?I was hoping Sookie would start to protect herself against these destructive relationships, as all women in their right mind would do. But well.- what with the oneys and deaders and whatever. where did THAT come from, seriously?- the only cool part was the one with Hunter. I definitely saw a story there. But seems like Charlaine didn't... (Yet?)- did anyone find super-weird that Sookie would let a vampire she doesn't know (the tracker) approach a kid who is under her surveillance. And go as far as to invite Eric over, while the kid is in the house. Wasn't that gonna cause some kind of trouble?Actually, it didn't. And even that was disappointing.- the Bill situation - the guy is dying, and won't call his sister for help. Sookie sends an email. Magic happens, and all is solved. Really?- why did Claudine die again?- what with the fairy situation. It doesn't make any sense. Let alone the kiss, and the family cuddle at the end. Arf.So many unexploited plot lines. So much potential wasted. Arf, I'm so disappointed. The Sookies series was my guilty pleasure. Now it's not a pleasure anymore, and I don't even feel guilty...Please tell me the following ones are better...
review 2: Another enjoyable addition to this series, although have to say I preferred the previous novel. The main three plot lines here are Eric's maker coming to visit with his rather troubled new protege, the dead body of a werewolf found on Sookie's property and the unknown fairy who's been hanging around and probably wants to hurt our heroine. There's also the matter of Bill's ailing health and his newfound 'sister', which I thought could've featured more prominently - maybe in the next book.As with the last book, I liked that it was set in Bon Temps so we got to see a lot more of Sam, Jason and the other supporting characters. And, although I'm a big Eric fan and would have a hard time saying no to the guy myself, I'm not overly convinced by his 'marriage' to Sookie. Throw in the appearance of his maker, Appius Livius Ocella, and Eric suddenly becomes this vulnerable, sweet little guy who wants nothing more than to cuddle up with his missus. And the way Sookie has seemingly accepted this 'marriage' (even though he tricked her into it) seems somewhat out of character. Maybe it's just me, but I pictured more fireworks for these two, not picket fences and matching towels. And I've really warmed to Sam in the last couple of books. A part of me would love to see him and Sookie end up together. less

These books are very serial. At least Sookie doesn't get physically beat up in this one.

Not much happens, ended up sounding like a diary not a story

Lightly enjoyable, not much weight.
