review 1: I loved it. I would have liked for there to be more written of Sydney Carton. He is one of my favorite characters from the novel. The only criticism I have is with Lucie's character. She seemed unreal to me as a woman. But, I guess that is what you get from some Victorian literature, women characters that are too good, that have no faults, that are portrayed as saintly. But Ms. Pross makes up for it. She is a wonderful character.
review 2: In A Tale of Two Cities, one of Charles Dickens's many focuses is about the atrocities of the French Revolution. This book is set in 1775, 1783, and 1789, the first part of the book is set in 1775, the second 1783, the third 1789. The events in this book take place in one of two cities, London or Paris. Paris and Fra
... morence are described as being extremely dark, dreary, and depressing, while London is given a brighter mood. This book is told in a third-person, omniscient point of view. The main characters in this book are Jarvis Lorry, a old man who works for Tellison's Bank in London, Doctor Manette a middle aged French man who was a prisoner in the Bastille for eighteen years, Lucie Manette, who is about twenty, and is Doctor Manette's daughter, but has been living in England, and Charles Darnay, a member of a family of French aristocrats, who renounced his title, and left to England. In this story, Mr. Lorry meets Lucie Manette to go to Paris to take Doctor Manette back to England. After arriving in Saint Antoine, an section of Paris, the pair meet the Defarges a couple who owns a wine shop; the husband Ernest Defarge then takes the pair to Doctor Manette who has been recently released from his imprisonment. Upon finding Doctor Manette the pair discovers he has been greatly mentally affected by his imprisonment, as he is obsessed with making shoes. The pair then returns to London with the doctor.I liked this book for many reasons. One of these is that this book alternates between exciting and slower events, unlike many books that shove all the exciting parts into the end this spreads it out, for example in one chapter the Defarges are talking in their wine shop, in the next they're storming the Bastille. Also, this book is always going different places you think it is going, it is not necessarily surprising, but it dose not go where you think it is going, for example you may think this book is about Doctor Manette, but it's also about love between Lucie and another person, but its also about Doctor Manette, and even more. There is one major disadvantage to this book, and that is that it is too descriptive, for example Mr. Dickens might spend a paragraph talking about Lucie Manette's forehead. This book like many other books or movies has a character who is intent on getting revenge for somebody's actions, but that somebody has been a "good guy" for the entire story, so it seems wrong to take revenge. Authors do this to show that you should not take revenge on somebody, because if the person taking revenge is "good", revenge seems not so bad. Overall, I would give this book around four stars, and I would recommend it to everyone, but this book is challenging. less

Considering the fact that I was in ninth grade when I read this, I may not be the most reliable review. Even though I didn't get all of it, I really loved the story (unlike anyone else my age) and the meaning it held. I am very interested in most wars, especially the French Revolution and anything that gives me a taste of that I usually like. No one needs me to say this but Dickens truly is a gifted writer with a talent of reaching people in a way few others can.
