review 1: I am really getting hooked by Chris Bohjalian's offerings. This book is a very well done on audio with a different narrator for each person's telling of their story. Each section presents the story from the veiwpoint of that character. Each part arranged with just the correct details and background of that character to really draw you into the story. INFO FOR ME FOR REFERRALS: strong graphic images of death, minimum language, sexual encounters.
review 2: This might not have been the best choice for my first Chris Bohjalian novel. I kept reading basically so that I could see if my hunch about the killer was correct. I was right. Unfortunately the rest of the novel wasn't so amazing that it made up for the fact that I'd solved the crime practically right off
... morethe bat. I also found the battered wife details and subplot a little gratuitous and expoitive. I'm not going to grandstand about it, though. I guess I was just expecting more from this bestselling literary writer. If anyone has a better suggestion of what Chris B's best work might be, I'm willing to give him another shot. Beautiful cover deisgn, I'll given him that. less

Well written, but not one of my favorite books by this author. I thought it was a bit predictable.

i've found Bohjalian to be very hit or miss. Midwives was a big hit, this one was a big miss.

I guessed the end pretty early on, but I still enjoyed this a lot. I've become a huge fan.
