review 1: June Bug is seeing the country with her father via RV travel- we come across them as the walmart manager is getting tired of them parked in the parking lot of his walmart- and Sheila a kindly widow who works there takes them to her house until the part that will get the RV up and running again. While at Walmart June Bug sees a picture of herself age progressed to the present, and questions start forming. The story is wonderfully written and the author does well with characters making one love or hate them as their character deems them. Great book- I am excited to read more by this author.
review 2: I read this book on a recommendation a while back from a friend of mine. While the story itself was involving, the writing repeatedly annoyed me. Promoted as a "rete
... morelling of 'Les Miserables'", the author took every opportunity to bring God and Christianity into the story. But whereas Les Miz -- which definitely is a story summed up by the line "to love another person is to see the face of God" -- integrated the theme seamlessly and kept it IMHO non-denominational and uplifting, about halfway through June Bug, the theme became very overt, preachy and overshadowed the story rather than support it. I later saw that the book is considered "Christian literature"... if I'd known, I probably would have chosen not to read the book which would have been a loss, since the story itself of a little girl (June Bug) who "believed everything my daddy told me until I walked into Walmart and saw my picture on a poster" is a good one. I just wished it had been told in a better way without ulterior motive. less

An interesting Christian mystery. Catchy premise that keeps the reader interested.

I think it was a little to "God" for my taste but a good story nonetheless.

A father raises a rescued child. Good dad, good ending.
