review 1: This is beautiful! The town's compassion in hiding the circus animals from the circus master is so well depicted with a rich "hidden pictures" style of illustration. There are so many details to appreciate visually on every page. The story and its lyrical rhythm are sweet, and the book can lead to gentle conversation about the well-being of animals and the problems of a circus. It's one "happily ever after" book that I am very glad to have found.
review 2: Very good story line, an excellent tale the the children will enjoy listening to, and for two pages near the end of the book, to interact with. Fifteen circus animals that survived a sinking ship and made landfall on a remote Maine island will need to be found, so Mr Paine, the terribly demanding circus boss... more, can "put them back to work." How this ends can only be found out by reading this excellent picture book written and illustrated by Chris Van Dusen. less
