review 1: Just stunning, really...on many levels. This is a book that doesn't insult anyone's intelligence--even those who might think they could count the number of angels who could dance on the head of a pin--on the other hand, there's enough awesomely grotesque content to satisfy any fan of Lovecraft, King, or John Connolly. I found parts of the book to be profoundly moving; this is a philosopher/author who made me think, care about his characters, and consider my own thoughts on the nature of Hell.
review 2: Loved it. Fantasy battle between heaven and hell set in the middle ages amidst the devastation of the black plague (which in this book was set into motion by demonic angels who wanted to take over the world) There are knights in shining and not so shining armor
... more and a fallen knight and fallen priest find themselves appointed to lead a young girl ordained by God to save the world. It sometimes seems that it's about to hit the climax only to have them encounter another terror. This makes the book longer than it could be but it's worth it. less
