review 1: Wedding planner Dakota Halifax was left standing at the altar on the day of her wedding, on a cruise ship that’s already out in the ocean. Back home in Vegas, Dakota has to learn the reason for why her fiancee, Grant left her at the altar, and whether or not she’s willing to give him a second chance. When the book first opened and Dakota is jilted at the altar, I thought for certain that Grant had cheated on her and realized he didn’t want to marry Grant. But the reason for it was so non-stereotypical, I really looked forward to reading the rest of this book and I think it’s one of the reasons why I liked Ready to Wed so much. It wasn’t stereotypical with anything. It was cute and light and so, so funny.Dakota is a fantastic heroine. She’s sweet and loyal and sh... moree’s just so cute. I also loved how when Grant leaves her standing at the altar and gives her a really good reason for it, she doesn’t automatically take him back. She wants to take her time and sort out her feelings rather than go running right back to him. I love a heroine that doesn’t need a man to live her life and even though she was left at the altar (on a cruise ship!), she doesn’t fall apart.Grant totally had me seeing red. I get that he had a relatively good excuse for what happened, as good of an excuse as you can have for standing a girl up at the altar, but the way he handled it was so wrong. I thought it showed just how much he truly didn’t deserve Dakota.Brendan was very well developed and my only thing is I wish we had seen him more than just once in the first six or so chapters. Once he comes back into the story and starts becoming a part of Dakota’s life, I was in love. He has a very sweet and caring nature and he was really into Dakota, I hate heroes that are just luke-warm about the heroines. I also loved how laid back Brendan is because it really shows well with Dakota’s always-plan-everything ways.Dakota’s friend Jillian was so hysterical. She was very no nonsense and I loved the way that she was there to help Dakota piece her life back together. She was a very fleshed out character and I’d love to see her as a main character in a story. The book is cute and perfect for those who are a looking for a light read. It’ll have you believing in second chances and love all over again.
review 2: What a delightful summer release from Entangled Select! Reading Ready to Wed was like watching my favorite romantic comedy on film and met all of my criteria for a fun, lighthearted read. Plucky heroine with a great sense of humor? Check! Love triangle with dramatic tension? Check! Killer shoes? Check! Dreamy leading man who looks just as good in a t-shirt and jeans as he does in a suit and tie? Check! Cindi Madsen’s adorable novel really did have it all.Dakota is the perfect leady lady. She’s quirky and high-spirited, yet completely neurotic in all the right ways. As a wedding planner obsessed with details, and yet so totally in love with the idea of being in love, I found her to be wholly relatable. As for the fiancée who left her at the alter, the author did a wonderful job of humanizing Grant and making the reader sympathize with his very real reason for getting cold feet. I didn’t spend too much time rooting for him, however, because waiting in the wings was the most delightful of leading men that I’ve read in a while. Brendan is laid back and funny, and he is all heart. I loved his driving need to take care of Dakota, starting at a young age and moving forward into this love affair. So sweet! Full of lavish descriptions of weddings and packed with tender moments, Ready to Wed is a wonderful romance. It’s light on the drama and heavy on the swoon-worthy moments and will keep you turning pages in search of more fun. less
