review 1: That One Summer by C.J. Duggan The Summer Series Book #3 Genre: Contemporary RomanceAge Group: Mature YARelease Date: January 20th 2014Print Length: 349 pagesOverall Rating: 4.5 Stars Every once in a while I like to step a little out of my comfort zone as far as what I like to read. This book is considered Mature YA I guess and I do stick mainly to other genres. But let me tell you I am so freaking glad I decided to give this book a chance!! I absolutely loved it. Everything about it! C.J. Duggan created fantastic characters and such a good storyline. Her writing style is so good and she built this Amazing world for us and I thoroughly enjoyed getting wrapped up in this story. This book is part of a series, but each book can be read as a standalone. This is the story of T... moreammy and Chris, well along with all their best friends. Chris is one of the Onslow boys, a tight group of seriously hot guys from the small town of Onslow. Chris is the serious Onslow boy, the responsible quiet one. He comes off as moody to everyone and mostly just keeps to himself. Tammy is the new comer to the group, she grew up in Onslow but was never one to have much of a social life. Her best friend Amy is dating Sean one of the Infamous Onslow boys. So Tammy is thrown into the group and she is really unsure how she feels about it. When the friends all decide to go on a camping trip Tammy somehow ends up having to ride with Chris, something she is really not looking forward to. They spend the first half of the drive not even speaking to each other but when Tammy gets one of her bad migraines and Chris goes out of his way to help her she starts to see that there is more to him then meets the eye. As they continue to spend more time together she starts to develop feelings for him but doesn’t know how to deal with them. Soon stolen glances between the two leads to something more and even though it took a while for Tammy to break through his rough exterior she sees the softer side of Chris. “My body lay flush against him, my chest pressed up against his. I could feel every breath, every pulse, every beat of him”. I loved Tammy’s character, she was a breath of fresh air. She was shy, sweet and completely awkward for most of the book. Even though she felt like an outsider whenever she was with the group, you could really feel how bad she wanted to fit in and feel like she belonged. I really connected with her early on and enjoyed seeing her character grow throughout the book.Chris was another Amazing character. I was really drawn to him, he was such a mystery during most of the book and really had me intrigued. The sexy, quiet one. You know what they say about the quiet ones right? I must admit at times during the book he would really piss me off, he seriously needed an attitude adjustment for a while there. But then as the story progresses and we get to learn more about the Onslow boy behind the scowl I fell in love with him. He was just really sweet and he truly just cared about Tammy. These two fit so well together. The shy girl who just can’t see how beautiful she is on the inside as well as the outside and The sexy, moody Onslow boy who never let anyone in until now. I adored them as a couple and loved how they brought each other out of their shells. They complimented each other perfectly. “His eyes dipped lower, roaming over my translucent dress, the wet white clothing I had all but forgotten to shield. What’s more, with the way Chris looked at me, the way his eyes burned for me…I really didn’t want to. Let him look, let him see, because, as far as I was concerned, tonight I belonged to him”.. As I said this book is part of a series and even though it says it can be read as a standalone I really wish I had read the others first. There were times when I just wantedMore back-story on some of the characters. I fell in love with every single character in this book, and that really had me wishing I knew them a little better. I thinkThat’s the only Reason this book did not get five stars from me. Because even though this was supposed to be Tammy and Chris’s story I felt like it was all theirstories. Their lives are all so closely intertwined with each other and I really enjoyed that, it was one of my favorite things about this book. The strong unbreakable bond of friendship was Amazing . You want to know what I am going to do After I’m done with this review? I am going to go and read the first two books, and then read this one again. That One Summer was a Fantastic read and was so well written. I would highly recommend this book and really looking forward to reading more from this Author.Reviewed by Stephanie the Book Hooker
review 2: I was scared that this book would be disappointing. I was a little disappointed at the beginning. The first time you read Chris's name, you already know what's going to happen. Then, Amy seemed to be even more of a bitch than she was in the last book. But what made that all better is Tammy just over looking it, and sugarcoating Amy's bitchiness by just calling her "stubborn". Tammy is such a sweet girl. I enjoyed reading her story almost as much as I enjoyed reading Tess's. She's sensitive, shy, and gets stressed easily. I think I liked the story more than I should've because I can totally relate to Tammy. Luckily, I don't get migraines all the time, but I get anxiety attacks over just a little stress. And I also am trying to change my shyness. So I see a lot of Tammy in me, which made the book even better.Though I thought I could just sum the whole book up in the beginning, I'm glad I kept reading it because it did, indeed prove me wrong. So much more happened than I thought would. It was amazing seeing Chris's transformation throughout the series. This book could be read as a standalone. But I recommend reading the whole series, it would just make so much more sense, relationship-wise. less
