review 1: What else can I say except that I love Sebastian! This book includes his marriage to Hero and a little bit more about their unconventional relationship. Sebastian takes a break from his family drama in this book - which was a nice change for pace. We also get to see a little more of Hero and Sebastian's dark sides as they are both a little bloodthirsty in their pursuit of justice. The mystery in this book is very complex and comes together very nicely in the end. Hendon and Jarvis also become more likable as the series progresses. Harris really does a nice job of developing the characters.
review 2: This time, Sebastian sets out to solve a murder of a young, healthy man who worked in the foreign office and whose death was explained as a weak heart. Only,... more his anatomist friend Paul Gibson knows the real cause of death was a stiletto strike thanks to his illegal postmortem. Sebastian undertakes the case and finds the blame being passed between the representatives of Sweden, France, Turkey, and Russia as England is still entrenched in the Napoleonic Wars and fearful that the newly formed United States will attack Canada. Sebastian and Hero's lives continue to become more entwined and their feelings for each other more complicated. It has been a long time since I started and finished a book in one day, and is perhaps indicative of how much this series has drawn me in--I do not know that I will end up re-reading this series the way I do with Deanna Raybourn or Anna Lee Huber's works, but it is certainly keeping me hooked and constantly looking to know what happens next. less
