review 1: Although much of the research was spot-on (and the author does list non-historical changes at the end) was disappointed by the flat writing and shallow characters. I am a huge fan of Isabel, and enjoyed the fictional depiction of her life even if her personality was severely modernized. However, I did not feel like there was a clear plot or than any force was driving the action (other than historical fate.)
review 2: Since Sarah was thinking about a trip to Spain, I thought I'd get some history in an entertaining way. Interesting but a little too soft on the whole Inquisition thing. I don't think Isabella was unaware of what they were doing and I think she probably approved. But I think the author wanted to soften it so she wouldn't look too evil in today's p
... moreolitically correct world. It was what it was. And we can learn from their mistakes. Otherwise, quite enjoyable look at some Spanish history. less

Not bad. He copped out on the Inquisition, I believe, but still enjoyable.
