review 1: 4.5 (.5 off for a bit of trouble understanding their body positions during the final scene--not that it wasn't still a-fucking-mazing!)The careful, slow, natural development of their relationship is what blew me away. Why? Because while it was exciting, breath-taking, fresh, re-readable, it was... as natural and as old as time itself. It was the best "gfy" story I've ever read. Very persuasive. In fact, it wasn't even about "being gay"; it was about Ox and Runt. The scenes, the prose, the "dialogue" (Ox is mute but boy does he speak) were all lyrical.I didn't quite understand Ox's reason for being on the terraforming planet, but I don't think it mattered. All that was important to the story was easily gleaned, all that informed Ox's current behaviour was given. And the sus... morepenseful questions I had felt adequately answered.Another significant fact: the world is creative and I was right there with the two men. Usually, I have trouble with world intensive stories. This one? A delight. The focus was the characters but the world was a big part of defining them.
review 2: This book shocked me a little. Only because it was actually this really sweet, tender love story. It just blew me away at how these two guys loved each other.Ideally, there will never be a follow-up to this story because in my mind, HardCell just ignores their existence, letting them grown and produce their quota and just letting them live their lives, growing old together and just being happy and simple. less
