review 1: I am a complete nerd for fact books. I love just skimming through random, two-sentence pieces of little known information. And Harmon's Super Pop! reads a lot like a fact book and would have been perfect if I were still eleven-years-old.It's written as a comprehensive series of top ten lists covering a range of topics, from best hangouts from movies through the ages, to best books, to best animal sidekicks that may or may not have changed the course of history. It's a fun, mostly-mindless read, except for when you have to Google some obscure reference to a movie or book that Harmon and three other people have heard of.While definitely a high-brow look at pop culture for the teens who can appreciate indie filmmakers, it's also a handy reference book for besting your friends... more in an argument on Facebook about the name of the drive-in from Dazed and Confused. And that's something we all need more of in our lives.
review 2: I love books like Super Pop that are full of trivia, fun facts, lists, and pop culture references. I always prided myself on having a vast knowledge of pop-trivia, but after reading Super Pop I discovered that I don't have it going on. At all. But this is a good thing because I've learned so many fun facts reading Super Pop and keeps me turning the pages to learn something new.The lists are organized by five topics: "Be More Interesting", "Get Smart(er)", "Stop Doing It Wrong", "Find Happiness", and "Survive the Holidays" and the lists compiled are comprised of a books, movies, comics, music, tv shows, and podcasts. The variety of mediums within each list made them more interesting than lists that are usually comprised of the same medium which can become boring.Super Pop is extremely entertaining and, for me, educational. I am the target audience because I want to "win at trivia, survive in the wild, and make it through the holidays". less
