review 1: Fast pace. Solid research. A great deal of action, but, alas, I found the writing a trifle pedestrian, the character interplay clichéd, and some of the key characters a little too close to those hackneyed stereotypes I'd hoped we'd moved beyond. Still, I read the whole thing, and would probably read another with the same kind of sigh I might make when visiting that Scottish restaurant chain with the burgers.
review 2: This is a somewhat scary view of how things could go wrong with drone warfare and AI. Not really a true singularity story, but a cautionary tale of why arming autonomous robots might not be the best idea, given that it obfuscates clear responsibility for their action. If an autonomous drone attacks and kills someone, who is really accountable?
... more It's kind of like the self-driving car debate. Is it the owner of the car? The manufacturer? No one? At the very least, difficult to trace. less
