review 1: Finished the third in the trilogy and if there is a better storyteller of southern noir I surely would like to know their name so I could savor them as I have done Daniel Woodrell. Daniel Woodrell is a master storyteller and you be foolish not to jump in the pool and pick up this trilogy, then all others of Mr. Woodrell's. That's what I'm going to do today, pick up another Woodrell as I'm am hooked.
review 2: Woodrell's facility with language is amazing, and it's often a pleasure just to read for the surprising adjectives and adverbs. The similarity of these novellas to James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux novels was somewhat startling, though, and I do wish that Woodrell's characters talked in a greater variety of ways. Gave up on the first story in the trilogy. Not sure if it's worth the effort to try the other two.
