review 1: Having read du Maurier's Rebecca and watched the Laurence Oliver version, I did not hesitate much when I came across Flight of the Falcon. This author was once the queen supreme when it came to suspense. The plot still holds up after all these years and I found myself reading by flashlight when a windstorm knocked out our lights for a day and a half. Yes, it was that good. Why? Tight writing, full characters, lush settings, intrigue, double plots, scintillating dialogue--it's all there. It would be difficult to describe the story without giving it away. My suggestion is to look it up or better yet, plunge in. It's a short read, yet quite fulfilling.
review 2: Apparently this is one of Daphne's less successful books however I found it thoroughly engaging. It is
... moreset in Italy and, as usual, the author manages to evoke the character and setting so much that you feel you are actually walking the streets of 'Ruffano' which I gather isbased upon Urbino.I admit that it was quite easy to guess what the climax might be and what the 'reveals' would be but this didn't spoil my enjoyment at all. less

This was OK. The plot was classic DuMaurier, but the setting left something to be desired.
