review 1: In many ways, I felt like this book took the principles of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and applied them to a business environment. For example, Ramsey stressed the importance of vision and mission statements much like Covey highlighted the need to start with the end in mind. My most significant take away from this book was the importance of treating your subordinates like the valuable team members they are. I also found his section on making hard decisions very helpful. Overall, I found the book to be very beneficial, but not as powerful as Covey’s book.
review 2: Dave Ramsey is an excellent speaker/writer/communicator/influencer/motivator. This book of his is no exception. Even though 70% of the book didn't apply directly to my type or size of bu
... moresiness, I still felt compelled to read his stories and twist his lessons to apply to my own business. In the first chapter I was moved to write my business goals. He doesn't know me or my company but Dave (first name basis!) succeeded in guiding me toward creating a "proper" goal for my business, something I haven't done this specifically before.I also got a refresher course in time management, Covey-style. Other than those two pieces, the rest of the book was really intended for bigger businesses. I am a business of one. I don't have payroll, departments, or a single employee other than myself. However, just because I don't, it didn't mean I couldn't apply the information in the book to suit my needs. When he talked about picking the right employees, I twisted it to how to "pick" (target) the right clients. How he treats his employees is how I treat my clients. This book didn't contain any new and groundbreaking ideas. But I did I enjoy seeing a reminder on certain ideas and concepts for running a successful business. less
