review 1: Jason Kolarich has become addicted to the pain pills he took for knee pain and thinks he's hiding it well. A strange looking man comes to him for advice as he believes the police will be looking at him in connection with two recent murders. At the same time, Jason is romantically pursued by a court reporter and also fails to live up to a promise he made to his partner, Shauna, concerning her upcoming trial. More women are killed and Jason has many second thoughts about the strange man and the series of brutal murders that have taken place. Suspenseful, complicated and utterly brilliant, this one keeps you guessing all the way to the last page.
review 2: This was my first book by Ellis. I usually don't like coming into a "series" in the middle, but that's what h... moreappened here. The Jason Kolarich character seemed to be a little abrasive and uncaring, but I guess that's the situation he finds himself in when he's addicted to Oxy. I was also a little thrown by the two viewpoints, Jason's and his partner Shauna. Not having read the beginning of the series, I can't believe it took 9 books for them to really hook up. I found the plot too complicated and totally unbelievable. For Jason to have figured out how to beat the rap, and the things he had to do before hand to make that happen, it's very far fetched to believe someone could envision how it tied together before the fact. But I did enjoy it, and I'll probably try to read an earlier version of Jason. less
