review 1: RATBURGER BY DAVID WALLIAMS THE BLURB The fifth screamingly funny novel from David Walliams, number one bestseller and fastest growing children’s author in the country, now available in paperback. From the bestselling author of Gangsta Granny and Demon Dentist comes another hilarious, action-packed and touching novel – the story of a little girl called Zoe. Things are not looking good for Zoe. Her stepmother Sheila is so lazy she gets Zoe to pick her nose for her. The school bully Tina Trotts makes her life a misery – mainly by flobbing on her head. And now the evil Burt from Burt’s Burgers is after her pet rat! And guess what he wants to do with it? The clue is in the title…From the author that is being called ‘a new Roald Dahl’, Ratburger is not to be missed... more!WHAT I SAY I just love Davids books i first read one a couple of week ago for my children book & tv book week and wanted to read more i pick this up at the library What a book full of adventure and danger .It got a few gory details it hilariously funny it made me laugh a few times you will absolutely love this book it a amazing and heart warming read kids and adult will just enjoy reading it Zoe the main character she loves her dad but she hates her step mum Tina the school bully she so mean Burt sell burger out side the school gate Sheila Zoe’s step mum she eat pawn cocktail crisps all the time she a bit large as zoes says she not a nice lady at all i did not like her Zoe hates school so much cause Tina not nice to her you get to hear all about what going on at school not very good place to be i say One day zoe pet dies and a new one appears did her dad put the rat in the cage where did it come from ? review 2: Tina is a young girl who befriends a rat. The book harks back to Roald Dahl at his grotesquely funniest. Imagery that wouldn't be amiss in the twits borders the line between horrible and funny that children can revel in. I think this would be a great book for year 5 and 6 children. There are words such as 'surreptitiously', that can extend children's learning on the same page that will have them laughing at snot on the ceiling. The idea of a child befriending a rat turns convention on its head, taking a perceived notion and forcing readers to have a look at it from a different point of view. This could be extended in the classroom in a variety of ways; looking at different religions, different cultures, or any topic plans. Children could write the story from the rats point of view. I enjoyed this book and would use it in class. less
