Honorverse: Saganami Island
review 1: This was a terribly repetitive drag. Read as one dimensional characters in far flung areas of the Talbot Cluster are gradually informed of exciting things that happened in other books. Read on as they have meetings to exhaustively discuss those things. Then read on some more as they summarise those meetings to people that couldn't make it. Every time I read "Let me explain" I wanted to cry. The only interesting scenes are battles covered at length elsewhere so you already know the outcome and I am not enough of a wargamer to care about the exact ranges of missiles. Totally skip this one: literally nothing happens.
review 2: It was nice to read some of the 'back stories' alluded to in the main Honor books (blowing up Byng, etc), and at least this book (unl
... moreike the Crown of Slaves) actually allowed me to read about some action ... although it was often cut off as the first missile flies. But a lot of dead horses were beaten past death, in that often the narrator would tell us what was about to happen, then some characters used dialog to drag out the obvious, and than after the event we'd get more narration explaining what happened and how people felt. Also, it was annoying to read through the 5th or 6th SLN lamenting through pages of how they loathed the uppity Manties. Repeating such themes over and over every time a new character is introduced is not necessary. less

Scary book, cliff-hanger ending.... Hope one of the other books picks up the threads of this story!
