review 1: Book Review- The Breadwinner TrilogyThe Breadwinner trilogy, is an amazing, meaningful, and inspiring book written by Deborah Ellis. It’s about a girl who supports her poor family in Afghanistan while going through drastic changes and much more.Parvana is one of the five children of a family in Kabul, Afghanistan. She is about eleven years old. during the book, her father gets taken away by the Taliban and her, her mother, and siblings have to cope with the war and sustain each other. Her mother realizes that the work that she was already doing was not making a big impact, so she sets Parvana to be the breadwinner. The first time Parvana was a breadwinner, she came home without unharmed and with a big basket full of groceries. Parvana says “I did it! I went shopping wi... morethout anyone bothering me!” Over the course of being the family breadwinner, the Taliban rules affected her and everyone around her. Parvana states “Its so easy call to yourself scared when most other people are safe at home” Parvana had to sacrifice her hair and sometimes put her life on the line to find something to sustain the family for a least two more days. In Afghanistan, the Taliban rules were so strict that her mother or any other women or girl could not go outside without wearing a burqa. On the way of Parvana's journey, she meets a girl about the same age named Shauzia. During the second half of the book, the author gradually moves into the situation of Shauzia's life. This book compares to a book called Shooting Kabul, where there is also a family from afghanistan but there is a different plot. Also in the Breadwinner, there is a female protagonist while in Shooting Kabul there is a male protagonist. You should read this book because during some parts, it lets you see the reality of what's happening in afghanistan and other countries in the world. After I read this book, it made me feel really fortunate which made me feel good. What I noticed about this book was that there was three parts to it: character development, plot development, and the time frame. These three things made me want to read further and further on and I highly recommend this book because of that. If you enjoy reality, non-fiction books filled with inspiration and sometimes a little tears, this book would be perfect for you. I highly recommend this book.
review 2: Parvana is a young girl living with her family in a one room apartment in Kabul, Afghanistan. Although women are not supposed to be seen in public, Parvana accompanies her father while he works at the market. Parvana's father is arrested and taken away. In order to help her family, Parvana must cut her hair to look like a boy and risk her life everyday by continuing her father's work in the market. If only all families could remain as loyal to each other as they do in this trilogy. What a wonderful book for young girls to read. It will teach them that they are as strong and important as boys are. less
