review 1: I did enjoy this one, I really did, but there were a few things keeping me from enjoying it as much as I have enjoyed my latest reads, so when comparing this to them I felt compelled to only go with three stars. The idea of the romance was a good one, and the characters unique. They were both facing their own struggles within the relationship, and outside of it. But honestly, I never connected to either character as I should, and it left something lacking for me.The history in the book is interesting, but the whole thing about Zosia's parentage seemed cliched and forced, and it kind of fell by the wayside when she realized the Russian emperor was not going to listen. all those impassioned pleas got nowhere, and made the story fall down at that point for me as well.Anyway, ... morea unique story, if you'd like to try something a little different, then this one is for you.
review 2: It is unique to find a story with a heroine who has bodily imperfections...and I have to say that when I come across them I tend to enjoy them very much. This story was another in the short line of tales that I can add to that list :)Emotions so strong for love and country that sometimes I wasn't sure which they would choose. Ms Marvelle did a great job in whipping up two characters that were so complex, with so many different layers that it left me with a true feeling that they were real.When you couple characters like that with a story that is this dynamic, you really come out with a winner :) less
