review 1: By the end of this book I liked it a lot more than I did in the beginning. The alternate world of Sang was very interesting. I especially liked the idea of the travelling caravan and wished we could have spent more time with it. Tish/Letita was a decent main character. I felt like she maybe accepted the whole world of Sang a little too easily, but that was better than having her flutter about and refuse to believe or accept or something. I will definitely be checking out more of this series!
review 2: I really enjoyed this book and its unusual world. I really liked the twist on a vampire story and I thought the world was richly developed and the characters well-fleshed-out. I would be interested in reading more stories about these characters or others in the wo
... morerld. The author did a great job showcasing discrimination in a fantasy world and in establishing a really believable world with shades of grey. I am interested in why so many people from America show up in this particular world when they go unconscious, and how exactly the magic works. Clearly there's real magic, and that Criminy knows how to use it, but it sounds like the magic is difficult to use and maybe that only some people have the talent, but it was pretty unclear. How much of Criminy's magic was showmanship and how much was real magic? The magic system was probably the weakest point of the whole book, which otherwise an enjoyable read. less
