review 1: A different take on the detective novel. First because the protag. is a bodyguard and second bc the action takes place in S. Africa. A real good sense of S African mores w/out being forced. An unsympathetic character that doesn't become the squishy good-guy w/a heart of gold - but he's still too nice for me, and a plot that seems fated to be unsatisfying and that gets pulled together very adroitly.(3.3)
review 2: Hmm, a south African mystery story complete with old battle African tribal grounds as the stage for a the hero's personal battles with the "bad guys" who are out to get his guardee. And sure, she is a personable, beautiful totally cardboard figure with the mandatory flat stomach that always seems to be a lure to and cliche to male authors. Well, thi... mores lonely aggressive guy wants to guard her body and he does. The best figure in the book is the hero's boss a strong woman who runs the body guard agency. Read it if you like a quick skimmable enjoyable "airplane" book. less
