review 1: What I really liked about this book was the African setting and the fast and gripping story. I also liked the protagonist of the book, even though his character is drawn in a stereotypic way: It's the typical noir-investigator with a hard shell and a soft core, fighting his opponents vigorously but falling desperately in love with the little woman he has to protect. In some parts, the novel is as kitschy as Kevin Costner's movie 'Bodyguard'. Nevertheless, it's a good crime tale which additionally explains some details about South Africa's National Parks and wildlife policy and the struggle between protecting animals and providing sufficient resources to the native human inhabitants of the country. In my opinion, Meyer is better in describing the urban African life, but aft... moreer all, 'Blood Safari' is another good crime story by the author.
review 2: Es la segunda novela que leo ambientada en Sudáfrica, y poco o nada tiene que ver con la otra que leí; aunque eso no importa, no se porque creí que deberían parecerse. La novela de Meyer es claramente un thriller; un thriller sobre el racismo, la política y el medio ambiente, o la destrucción de este, mas concretamente la masacre de los animales y la fauna en África. Me ha gustado, no es el tipo de novelas que suelo leer, el toque negro esta, por supuesto, pero no es una novela negra clásica, ni un poco. Es una novela sencilla y sin demasiadas pretensiones, que te hace disfrutar leyendo y donde, mira por donde, se aprenden un montón de cosas sobre África, los buitres, el trafico de marfil, las tribus, su economía, sus luchas y un montón de cosas mas, que no esta nada mal. Yo la recomendaría mas para el verano, ya que sus cuatrocientas y poco de páginas son ideales para esa época. less
