review 1: Increasingly it seems to be more about Valkyrie, her trials and her love life, as well as other characters. Skulduggery Pleasant, of whom the series is named after, seems to have become a minor character. Maybe this series shouldn't be called Skulduggery Pleasant anymore, since his partner seems to be the main.Not much humor as a result. And I don't particularly prefer to read about love triangles of a teenager either. Really felt like the direction is lost on this one. What happened to this series?
review 2: I love this series so far, and I really enjoyed this particular book. At times, it surprised me with some rather violent/icky scenes (well, for me, anyway), and there were a few sad things about it that I didn't care for. Overall, though, I really liked it... more. There was so much happening, so many plot threads and characters and events, that I kind of needed a character list at times, or a recap of what had happened before, but, that also made Skulduggery's world feel real, and everything that was going on really drew me into the story. Fast paced and exciting! I'm really looking forward to the next book! less
