review 1: No lo he podido terminar... y mira que tengo aguante, pero es que no pasaba NADA y me estaba aburriendo. Es una pena porque los personajes y el mundo están bien creados. Es la ejecución lo que falla. La serie In Death de J D Robb también es policíaca pero al menos es mas emocionante. Aquí hay demasiados párrafos malgastados y que solo hacen que se ralentice todo. PS: No se porque sigo fiándome de las reviews de goodreads y amazon *sigh*
review 2: This book was my first foray into the world of strictly Paranormal Romance, and I think maybe I was just kind of shocked by it when I read it. I was... more very naive about the entire thing but regardless of all that I finished it, and I thought it was alright.There was nothing deliberate about the style of writing or character development or any real underlying themes to this book; it is just nitty gritty storytelling about a chick in the basement with a demon, or something. It's simultaneously strange and straightforward. I mean it's a good book, but there's nothing exceptional about it to make me want to invest time in a series. One of those summer reads that you read in an afternoon and move on to something else. less

I kinda fell into this book and decided to give it a go. The story sounded interested and I was not disappointed. It's a fantastic murder mystery set in a paranormal world of demons and summoners.I really liked Kara, she's a brand new homicide detective who has skills outside the kind of skill you can claim on a police resume. She's someone you can really identify with as someone who can kick ass but has the kind of vulnerabilities that everyone can relate to. She was also nervous and frightened at times but still did what needed to get done. That to me is better than seeing someone who just goes through an entire murder mystery without batting an eye.This murder mystery has a wonderfully satisfying ending while still leaving some story arcs open for future novels. I'm jumping into the next one right now!

Not sure how to rate this book. On the one hand, I mostly liked the MC, character, plot, and story, and did not see the reveal coming at all. A solid 4. OTOH, the MC's irrational behaviour towards the bad boy lust interest gave me a headache, and continues to give me a headache as I start book 2. Do people actually like reading about female MCs who obsess and self destruct over a guy they know is a bad idea? So far her behavior is merely annoying, I hope she does not go all PTW over him.
